on special - locavore smoked pork fresh sandwich
On special today, a locavore sandwich - with all ingredients from the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market.
First off, the pork, from Good Spirit Farm/Bakery, care of Jonathon Lee and Peyton Leavitt, organic farmer/baker team north of Naicam. They actually have a cafe/bakery in Watson, SK, which you oughta check out (open mo-fri, but call ahead).

And their organic feed, all from farms around Jonathon’s farm:

I took some tenderloin roast and hot smoked it for three hours.
Added heirloom tomatoes, field cucumbers, greens from Wally and Gail, and clay oven pullman bread.

On sale for 10- Absolutely killer sandwich! If you keep buying it, I will keep making it.
In fact, we’ve been doing more local ingredients than ever. Seabuckthorn berries in our scones and salads, and we’re switching over to use more additive free organic, sask-milled flour in all our baking, starting sunday. I’ve also been mucking around with pain au levain, using different blends of milled whole flours (halychanka, barley, etc…) which will creep into our menu slowly but surely. Also, we will be featuring Farmers’ Market soups… later today, it will be Україньский Борщт (Ukrainian Borscht).
Okay… back to the kitchen!
